BRAVE Black Girl

Groundbreaking empowerment programme for black girls aged 8yrs - 17yrs old.

Encouraging young girls to live fearless lives through story-telling, coaching, creative therapy and community outreach and supporting organisations to enhance their diversity and inclusion practice.

What is BRAVE Black Girl?

Black girls need access to services that reflect their identity, and BRAVE is here to provide it!

The BRAVE Black Girl slogan is, ‘My Blackness is Fabulous!’

The programme uses the BRAVE characteristics displayed by the main character Hattie, from my novel Halo Hattie and the Galaxiers Discovery to inspire black girls to use their voices, enable them to believe in themselves and enhance their skills to become BRAVE leaders of the future.

BRAVE Black Girls is designed to:

  1. Develop moral courage

  2. Build emotional resilience

  3. Increase their sense of belonging and black identity

  4. Strengthen their mental health

BRAVE opens up a conversation about embracing the unique challenges faced by black girls and provides a safe space to explore their feelings and boost their confidence whilst on their BRAVE journey to achieve their dreams!

👋Hi, I’m Le’Siran…

…it’s likely you’re here as we’ve met at an event, or you’ve read my Halo Hattie novel! You may already know my story, but just in case we haven’t met, I’ve worked with children and families for 25yrs! For 10 of those years, I wrote Halo Hattie (I know it’s a long time, I was busy working, ok? I had to juggle a bit ☺️)

Since self-publishing Halo Hattie, I discovered that I can combine my skills, experience and qualifications in Social Work, Coaching and as a Therapeutic Play Practitioner to create The BRAVE Black Girl Programme.

I've seen first hand, the benefits of working creatively and therapeutically with children and families over the years and it's wonderful to see them empowered & motivated to develop their emotional literacy and resilience, social and behavioural development, and of course walk away with bucket loads of confidence! I love to see it🥰

Due to the success of young girls being inspired by Hattie as a black female lead character, I’ve had requests drop into my inbox from professionals, parents and organisations to develop a course from the novel. So, here I am!

If you’ve met me, you will already know that there is a shortage of black protagonists (let alone black female protagonists) in children’s fiction, hence, the first course from Halo Hattie is BRAVE Black Girl. I’m super proud to lead this programme and cannot wait to meet you all! 🤩

Check out the details of the programme below and if you’re interested, let’s book a date to start the journey to the BRAVE!

Reasons to make a referral

  • Inclusion and diversity matters! It’s key that specific services for black girls are offered to reflect the ethnic groups within your setting. They will feel seen, heard and most importantly included. This can lead to improved performance, increased rapport with staff and a child becoming more ‘settled’ and willing to learn; setting them on the right path to success.🏆

  • The BRAVE Black Girl Programme offers a safe space for black girls to explore their feelings and practice using their ‘fearless’ voice. This is an opportunity and experience they will NEVER forget. 👏

  • The children will meet a ‘real-life’ black Author! Believe it or not, I’ve met several children who felt that we did not exist! The impact of this interaction cannot be ignored. This too will inspire them to think about what they would like for their future and make a positive contribution to the community and beyond. 🎯

  • Developed and improved sense of belonging and identity 👸🏽

  • Improved emotional, social or behavioural development 😁

  • Enhanced mental health 🤩

  • Boosted confidence 🚀

  • Increased self-awareness, emotional literacy and emotional resilience 🥰
